“Reading Vatican II”
A Year of Faith focus on the decrees of the Second Vatican Council
Term 2, 2013
May 6, 13, 27, June 3, 17, 24
(Excluding May 20 and June 10)
“It seemed to me that timing the launch of the Year of Faith to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council would provide a good opportunity to help people understand that the texts bequeathed by the Council Fathers, in the words of Blessed John Paul II, “have lost nothing of their value or brilliance. They need to be read correctly, to be widely known and taken to heart as important and normative texts of the Magisterium, within the Church’s Tradition”.– Pope Benedict XVI, Motu Proprio Porta Fidei.
This course is an opportunity to read and study the major council texts together, including:
1. Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (Sacrosanctum Concilium)
2. Dogmatic Constitution on the Church (Lumen Gentium)
3. Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation (Dei Verbum)
4. Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World (Gaudium et Spes)
5. Decrees on Ecumenism (Unitatis Redintegratio) and the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (Nostra Aetate)
6. Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity (Apostolicam Actuositatem)
12 hours (6 x 2 hour) interactive sessions
Monday nights 6:30pm to 8:30pm May 6,13, 27, June 3, 17,24
